How did this come to our attention?
BORN GREEN: The Carbon Neutral Babies Campaign was born out of a pressing global reality—climate change is no longer a distant threat but an immediate crisis. With carbon emissions at an all-time high and extreme weather events increasing in frequency, we at Tranzent Foundation recognized that the next generation must inherit a planet worth living on. But how do we ensure that?
The Problem We Identified
- A child born today will contribute an average of 58.6 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually throughout their lifetime.
- Studies show that the first 10 years of a child’s life have the highest consumption-driven environmental impact due to factors like food, clothing, diapers, energy, and travel.
- According to the World Health Organization (WHO), children under 5 years old are among the most vulnerable to air pollution, contributing to more than 500,000 child deaths annually due to respiratory diseases caused by toxic air.
- By 2050, global carbon emissions must be cut by 50% to prevent catastrophic climate consequences—but we are nowhere near that goal.
As an organization committed to sustainability, social innovation, and community-driven change, Tranzent Foundation saw a unique opportunity: What if every newborn could start life as a climate warrior? What if parents could ensure that their child’s first impact on the planet was a positive one?
The Data That Inspired Us
- Research suggests that a single tree absorbs approximately 22 kg of CO₂ per year—meaning that planting just 45-50 trees can offset an individual’s carbon footprint for an entire lifetime.
- If 1 million parents take the Carbon Neutral Pledge, we could offset approximately 1.5 million metric tons of CO₂ per year—equivalent to removing 320,000 cars from the roads annually!
- Over 80% of Gen Z parents say they want to raise their children with eco-conscious values, but only 20% feel they have access to the right guidance and tools.
